Acer Aspire One BIOS Recovery

Some of the Acer Aspire One (AAO) net boks have little problem in the BIOS or in the system board. Thos systems suddenly stops booting. When the power button is pressed, power button light up but the system will not boot. Reason for this is currupted BIOS. In order to recover from this situaton, we have to rewrite the BIOS. This can be done very easily and what one need is a small flash drive formatted with FAT file system. The teps are as below.

  1. Format the flash drive with FAT file system
  2. Download the latest BIOS. This can be found in the Acer site (www.acer.com) or direct link -->http://www.acer.com.sg/acer/service.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&miu10einu24.current.attN2B2F2EEF=2957&sp=page15e&ctx2.c2att1=228&miu10ekcond13.attN2B2F2EEF=2957&CountryISOCtxParam=SG&ctx1g.c2att92=862&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=2031857867
  3. What you get is ZIP file. Un-ZIP the downloaded file. You will find online flash update files and folder called "Dos_Flash". "Dos_Flash"contains the flash files for Dos.
  4. Go to the "Dos_Flash" folder and copy only the "Flash.exe" file and "xxxx.fd" file. "xxxx" is the version of the BIOS.
  5. Rename the BIOS files as "ZG5IA32.FD".  In the file name, 3 and 2 are the only numeric(numbers). You might confuse "I (lower case- i)" for 1. This works only with this file name. So, make sure, you have the exact file name.
  6. Turn off the AAO and plug in the AC adapter. ( battery and AC adapter should be connected )
  7. Now press the "Fn"and "Esc"keys together and while keep them pressed, press the power button.
  8. Release the "Fn"+"Esc" keys after few seconds. And the power button should blink.
  9. Press the power button once again. And you will see the AAO accessing the flash drive with bulb blining in theflash drive. After about 3 munutes, AAO and flash drive stops blinking and reboots itself. If the system does not reboots by itself, manually reboot it.
  10. If it did not work, you will have to repeat the precess with longer waiting time.
